Fashion Week season provides us with our first glimpses of the styles we’ll all soon be wearing, and as ever the February/March journey to New York, London, Milan and Paris provided many expected (and unexpected) highlights. From opulent velvet, sweeping capes, practical puffer jackets and everything in between, here’s our roundup of the seven best runway fashion trends for Fall 2016…
Puffer Jacket Heaven
Undoubtedly one of the biggest trends seen on this year’s runways was the classic puffer jacket, which is set to be the must-have item for the Fall 2016 season. Emilio Pucci, Balenciaga, DKNY, Burberry and Chanel were just some of the fashion houses to embrace this trend, and it only goes to prove that runway fashion can sometimes be both stylish and practical at the same time!
Ah, velvet. Luxurious, opulent and striking, it’s everything that runway fashion should be. From the draped saffron dress at Valentino to the deep purple trouser suit at Bottega Veneta, velvet should be your material of choice for Fall ‘16.
The coolest kid in town is most definitely the one wearing a cape – and capes certainly made a big appearance during the Fall ‘16 shows. The range of styles on offer this year is simply staggering, making it pretty hard to pick a favourite amongst the ones we’ve seen. We’d point you in the direction of Missoni, Salvatore Ferragamo, Mulberry and Marc Jacobs.
Athleticism was the order of the day at Emilio Pucci, Joseph Altuzarra, Versace and many more, with the après-ski sweater set to be a big trend for the Fall 2016 season. Relaxed, cosy and the ideal partner for your on-trend puffer jacket, this is a trend we’re totally on board with. Pack your bags and get set for an adventure!
Leather, shoulder pads and ‘80s studs… One of the biggest runway fashion pieces for Fall 2016 is the classic leather moto jacket – but you don’t have to be scooting off on two-wheels to embrace the trend; this versatile cover-up is just as suitable for an evening out in the city. From Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Coach and Etro, there were many interesting takes on this style during the Fashion Week season.
Patent leather made an appearance in several recent runway fashion shows, and whilst in previous years it was reserved mostly for shoes and accessories, designers including Simon Miller, Dior and Proenza Schouler made good use of the finish in some ultra stylish trench coats that look just perfect for Fall or Winter.
Yes, you heard us correctly! Pinstripes were one of the biggest runway fashion trends seen during the Fall ’16 shows, and we think it’s great news. Cool, wearable and slimming, what’s not to like? For the best variants of this trend, check out the designs from Calvin Klein, Trussardi and Max Mara.
